FASTROAD (Flexible Advanced Services for Television & Radio On All Devices) is the technology advocacy program of the National Association of Broadcasters. The overall mission of the FASTROAD program is to seek and facilitate development and commercialization of new technologies that can be exploited by broadcasters using radio and television broadcast spectrum. The NAB Technology Advocacy Committee (NABTAC) reports to the NAB Joint Board of Directors and orginally recommended launching the FASTROAD initiative. In addition, the NAB Technology Advocacy Committee:
- Makes recommendations to the NAB Board of Directors on appropriate roles for NAB in the area of current and future technological developments relevant to broadcasters;
- Advises the Board on near and medium term technology trends that may either adversely affect or offer new business opportunities for broadcasters; and
- Offers guidance in developing NAB policy on issues with major technological components.
The Technical Committee generates ideas, selects new projects and reviews progress of ongoing projects.
